Urbandale’s 2019 Homecoming is promising many ways to celebrate and show school spirit! This year’s Homecoming week starts on September 16th. The theme is “Welcome to the Jungle.”
In previous years, UHS has had fun during Homecoming week by setting dress-up days where students and staff dress in outfits according to that day. This year the tradition is kept alive with five unique outfit themes. On Monday the 16th, to kick off Homecoming week the school will be covered in denim for Denim Day. Tuesday’s theme is Twin Day, dress the same as another student and try not to get mixed up. Wednesday is the day to wear animal print for Wild Wednesday. Thursday is Tourist Day so it is the perfect time to wear tacky shirts and long socks. Spirit Day is on Friday; be sure to wear J-Hawk gear to cheer on the football team.
Thursday, September 19th a street party will be held in the school’s parking lot before and after the Homecoming parade. The street party starts at 5:00 p.m. and ends at 8:00 p.m. and the parade is held at 6 p.m.. The parking lot will have many activities for all ages including J-Hawk tattoos, football team autographs, a DJ, and food trucks. Don’t forget to stop by the Urbandale Alumni Association booth by 7:30 p.m. to turn in your stamped “Find the J-Hawk” card. All Urbandale students, families, staff, alumni, and community supporters are welcome to attend.
On Friday, September 20th the Annual Homecoming Urbandale Lions Club Pancake Supper will be held at 4:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in UHS Commons. Tickets will be available at the door; 13 years old and up – $5.00; 12 years old and younger – $3.00. The Varsity football game against Lin Marr at Frerichs Field starts at 7:00 p.m.
Saturday, September 21st the Homecoming Dance starts at 8:00 p.m. and ends at 11:00 p.m. It will take place in the UHS commons. Tickets are $10 and they are for sale until the 20th. Go to room 211 or 105 to purchase tickets. All attendees must have an ID present. If a non-UHS student would like to attend they must fill out a form that will be available where the tickets are sold.
UHS Freshman Bellah McFarlane enjoyed her first homecoming: “ I celebrated homecoming by going to the dance with my friends. I had a lot of fun and I can’t wait for next year.”
This year’s Homecoming is going to be one for the books. Have fun and stay safe UHS!
