‘The Rock’ Rocks Prom

At Stillwater High School in Minnesota, morning announcements are not usually the highlight of a high schoolers day. However, Friday April 19th was different. A familiar voice sounded through the income saying “Good morning to the Stillwater Area High School students, this, as you might of guessed, it’s Dwayne Johnson, also known as ‘The Rock’…” Student’s across the school were amazed, but none as much as senior Katie Kelzenberg. Katie had asked Johnson to her prom through twitter the previous week. She was not expecting a response, but that Friday, his response left her ecstatic.

Johnson thanked Katie for the invite saying “Katie, I’m sure you are so embarrassed right now, but I just had to let you know how cool and awesome you are for inviting me to your prom.” He then explained he could not attend because he is shooting his new movie, “Rampage,” in Hawaii. He then gave her a surprise, “Because we are now best friends, and I have so much love for you because you’re so awesome, I have a special gift. I’ve rented out a theater tomorrow, the gift is this, grab all your favorite friends and closest family members and whoever you want to bring, because tomorrow I’m showing you a screening of my new movie, Rampage … and all the popcorn and candy and soda you can drink, cause it’s all on me.” Before signing off the intercom he urged some ‘chivalrous boy’ to ask Katie to prom in his absence.

Junior, Jacque Mills said “Honestly, why did I not think of that. It makes me want to do that next year, like invite a celebrity to our prom. It also makes me think of The Rock in a whole new way, like, I like him way more as a person.” After being asked her opinion on Katie asking Johnson to prom. She also added, “It’s also amazing because he made it up to her that he could not go by reserving the movie theater.”
